Man, but I hate the new year funks.
Yeah, okay, I know, I know - it's april tomorrow. I get funks, right? The main thing is that this one's finally passed.

What to put... what to put...
I really should think these journal entries through a little, few and far between as they are, but I can't think of anything relevant to non-drawing in general I've been getting up to that's worth mentioning. I reckon I'll just do a mini-blog thing and see how it goes.

I tanked badly with the CBR competition, but hey-ho. I'm currently drawing a superhero book (called Lightweight) for a small publisher who're trying to move into online comics, I just polished off a short strip for the Accent UK anthology that I can't show the art for until after it's been published (but which I was reasonably pleased with, as was the writer), and that's about it, really.

I've tried to watch Grey's Anatomy, too, to keep me occupied whilst I work away. Maybe I'm just not it's target audience, but it strikes me as a hateful show that wears a great contempt for its audience and humanity in general on it's sleeve, all while plying a trade as some sort of chick-show. I think I'll stick to the thick-eared, lumbering stupidity of The Unit and their Stepford Wives-like backing cast of barely-autonomous baby-making machines. At least we're supposed to take these characters as some sort of bad example, and even if they're bombing babies or shooting orphans, at least they aren't making puns over the bodies of women who've just been raped and beaten into a brain-dead coma.

Having said all that, it's great to be in a first-world country where what's offended me on tv is the worst of my worries. It's an odd snippet of wisdom that I think a great many people could benefit from.

Should probably update this bit. Get into the habit of plonking down thoughts and saying what stuff I'm doing so I'll actually have to follow through and finish stuff up.
If I can ever figure out how to scan things using Vista, I hope to get sketches and pages into photoshop and finish off the following:
Sancho (4 pages)
Turbo Katie (3 pages)
Spiderman posters (2)
Strontium Dog (6 pages)
Dark Star (3 pages)
Judge Dredd (6 pages)

All of which means bugger all to anyone but me and the person each project has been promised to, except for Dredd and TK, which are respectively an unnecessarily-optimistic submission for a magazine in the hope of getting work, and a comic book I started doing to keep in the habit of drawing on a regular timetable, but which has been scuppered from being finished just as i get to page 19 because photoshop's import command isn't compatible with Vista.

I really don't get this whole Vista thing - the guy in the pc shop described it as driving a Russian-made left-handed car when you're used to an American right-handed one. this sounds like a good analogy, as there isn't necessarily anything wrong with it, it's just everything's in a different place. And called something different. And occaisionally it breaks down every few miles. Or won't start. And you can't plug your cd player into it. And like a car, crashes aren't unheard of.

And it's damn hot in Cookstown. Damn hot.
